Weather chaos provides web traffic surge

The Big Freeze generated a huge increase in traffic to Northcliffe's "thisis" network last week.

The first week of 2010 saw over 1.4 million visitors to the network looking for information and news about the recent bad weather, school closures and travel.

On Wednesday January 6, the “thisis” network reached over 445,000 visitors in a single day, the largest ever daily audience.

Northcliffe teams across the country continue to provide weather and travel information, breaking news, stories, slideshows, videos, blogs and forums, keeping local audiences up-to-date with the changing weather conditions and the latest news.

Some “thisis” sites saw an increase of up to 98% in visitors on the previous week, with Thisisnottingham.co.uk leading with over 151,000 visitors and over 47,000 visitors in a single day on January 6 alone.

With the cold spell continuing and more snow forecast, the group is expecting a record number of visitors this month.
