Northcliffe Media's Mail News & Media, serving Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, picked up three Gold awards and a string of Silver and Bronze awards at the Newspaper Society's Advertising and Digital Media Awards. The awards ensured that the Hull publisher was named top local advertising publishing centre, a significant accolade for anyone operating in the industry. Another Northcliffe Media winner on the night was regional title, Nottingham Evening Post, which won the coveted 'Newspaper Website of the Year' award.
The prestigious awards showcase the best in advertising and digital media initiatives from the regional press industry in the UK. The Hull media company stood as a clear winner on the night scooping the 'Advertisement of the Year' and 'Alternative Advertising Revenue Stream of the Year' prizes, and sharing gold for Supplement or Section of the Year with Newsquest's Glasgow-based title, The Herald. Hull was also awarded silver or bronze in 8 other categories, reflecting its position as a successful and innovative local news and information provider.
These awards follow previous success for Mail News & Media at the Press Gazette Regional Press Awards in June 2008, where it was named 'UK Multimedia Publisher of the Year' and its flagship title, The Hull Daily Mail, was named 'UK Regional Daily Newspaper of the year'.
Phil Inman, Managing Director of Hull's Mail News & Media and Regional Managing Director of Northcliffe North East said: "2008 has, so far, been very successful for Northcliffe Media's regional titles. We are delighted to see that the innovative ways in which we deliver news and information to our readers has been recognised in such a way by the industry.
"Mail News & Media, alongside its owner Northcliffe Media, has worked hard to distinguish itself as a true multimedia business. Our creative approach to digital platforms, and development of our print publications, has ensured that we can reach our local communities in different and inventive ways, building our audience reach and increasing interaction with them.
"Being named top local advertising publishing centre, on top of recognition from the industry during 2008, for the Hull Daily Mail and our multimedia publishing, reinforces the fact that we are achieving our goals, and providing local people and advertising customers with exactly what they want."
